This is me, An Allergic Foodie, the face behind the lemon. I use the lemon Gravatar for several reasons. My blog has become so popular that fans swarm me when I enter the supermarket. Okay this happened once–and actually she was an old friend who has a soy allergy. But her husband got pretty darn excited when he realized I was the blogger who broke up with Dr. Oz.
I also hide behind the lemon because I don’t want restaurant staff to recognize me. Waitstaff and chefs would surely quake beneath their white coats if they recognized An Allergic Foodie taking note of their food-allergy capabilities. Okay, maybe it’s more that my husband doesn’t want our local restaurant owners to know who I am; hubbie wasn’t too happy when I wrote a negative review and couldn’t return to his favorite restaurant that made the “best” Osso Bucca.
The real reason I use the lemon is simple. My youngest son (I have two) took the photo on a roadside fruit stand in Italy during our first and only trip to Italy. It was tough trip because I was just learning to cope with celiac disease and food allergies. During this same trip, while eating tons of pasta, this same son started experiencing symptoms of celiac disease. The photo of the lemon reminds me of how far my son and I have come since that trip. It’s also rather silly and upbeat and I hope it reminds you that “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
